The Ass Wod; A Posterior Chain Development Program Monthly Occurring Membership
We define the posterior chain as the calves, glutes, hamstrings and low back. The importance of the posterior chain for athletes is simple; it will make you stronger, faster, and more powerful! Also, it's a great way to reduce injury because the hamstrings and low back are an often commonly injured area on athletes. I have yet to see a big squatter without an incredibly strong lower back and glutes.
Not only can tapping into your posterior chain get you extremely strong, help improve athleticism and give you the butt of your dreams, it can leave you significantly less injury-prone, especially with low back and knee injuries.
For the everyday person, the p-chain is incredibly important for quality of life. I can't tell you the amount of people I've trained that have improved day-to-day activities with a simple regimen of low back, abdominal, glute and hamstring exercises.
Glute Max is one of, if not the most, powerful muscles in the human body. Unfortunately, most individual’s glutes are offline thanks to endless hours of sitting. If we can strengthen the most powerful muscle in the body (which just so happens to neighbor and play intimately with the lumbar spine), wouldn’t it make sense that it would be good protection for the lumbar spine? Just sayin’
Most people only want to train what they see in the mirror and focus too much on the front of their bodies, whether aesthetic or performance based, there is no disadvantage to training for a stronger p- chain. To sum up, everyone can benefit from extra work on their posterior chain and abdominal region. This is often the most neglected part of anyone's body.
